The monthly economic Informe Affaires offers a series of articles in the context of a special report entitled “The North in action: energy, mining, and a vision for the future.” The vision of Développement PEK is put forward and the model of community energy is highlighted.
One article is dedicated to Development PEK. As a non-profit organization of the Pekuakamiulnuatsh Takuhikan, Développement PEK aims to maximize the economic benefits of energy projects for the community and for the community partners while developing local expertise. Energy projects represent unique opportunities for First Nations and local communities. First Nations and local communities to work together toward achieving a common vision.
Furthermore, in another article, Denis Taillon, administrator of the Société de l’énergie communautaire du Lac-Saint-Jean (SECLSJ), who was president for several years, argued that Quebec should adopt a genuine community energy policy. Such a policy would give communities the time they need to develop projects that better meet the needs and concerns of the local community. It should be noted that the SECLSJ has successfully developed the Val-Jalbert and Onzième Chute hydroelectric power plant projects.
